Director's Note

At its heart, Legally Blonde is a show about a woman who refuses to accept how the world sees her and decides to carve her own path in life.

This show is dedicated to all of the extraordinary women in our lives, most especially those who have given their time and talents to this production — adults, students, onstage, behind the scenes, supporting from home and in the audience. I’d like to acknowledge one woman in particular.

The best thing I did for this show was to invite my friend, Anna Allen, to join us as choreographer. When you see her work in action, you’ll know why. Anna brings a level of detail and enthusiasm to production numbers that take them from entertaining to exhilarating. She challenges her actors to achieve feats they likely thought impossible on day one, but they always rise to the occasion. She is a woman who holds herself to a high standard and expects others to meet her there. I can’t imagine a better role model for our young women.

I hope you leave today feeling inspired to carve your own path, defy expectations, and to move through the world with kindness and joy.

Kirt Graves Director

From the Producer

This past March, I invited twelve people from around Green Bay who I knew had a common dream of ensuring the legacy of a high-quality theatrical experience for high school students to a ZOOM meeting. Little did I know that meeting would lead to what you are seeing today. From the beginning, our goal has been not only to bring you a high-caliber production but also for these students to foster and grow their love of theatre and take what they are learning back to their individual schools so it can continue to grow there. That nearly one hundred students from around Northeast Wisconsin would show up for auditions for Legally Blonde was a testament to the need to continue this opportunity.

Your ticket purchase today says that you value this opportunity as well, and we thank you. Putting on a show of this caliber is an expensive venture, and we could not do it without your support. In addition to your presence, we are grateful for those individuals and families who donated and businesses that sponsored us. You are helping us achieve our goal of creating a sustainable organization that will produce shows for years to come. If you have that same vision for our fledgling group, donations are always welcome and appreciated beyond words. Information can be found on our website, newheightsonstage.org.

I must acknowledge Kate Williams, Executive Director of the Ashwaubenon Performing Arts Center, for her work with the Ashwaubenon School District and Village, and all of her assistance and encouragement. It is not an exaggeration to say that without her, what you are about to experience would not have happened. Finally, to our Production Team made up of over twenty dedicated individuals who have given countless hours for these students, to say I am grateful is an understatement. On behalf of our cast, pit, and crews representing almost twenty area high schools, I hope that you enjoy our production of Legally Blonde – The Musical.

Headshot of Emma Ahlswede

Emma Ahlswede

Delta Nu Sister/Greek Chorus, Bookish Client

Pulaski High School

Emma, an incoming senior, has loved theater ever since she was little. She has been in 5 musicals through her school (her favorite being JoJo in Seussical the Musical or Ariel in The Little Mermaid), 3 One Acts (all of which made it to state, including an Outstanding Actress Award), and 3 melodramas. This past January, she sang in the WCDA Vocal Jazz ensemble and sang in the A Cappella choir as a sophomore last year. She is in her fourth year of singing in the WSMA Honors choir, and yet this is her first summer musical! Outside rehearsals, Emma loves shopping, Disney, hanging out with friends and family, and of course, the color pink!

Whether she's cheering on her Delta Nu sisters or stopping by the salon for a little pampering (and maybe a bit of gossip!), Emma helps bring the colorful, energetic world of Legally Blonde to life. Every scene she steps into adds a little more sparkle, laughter, and pink to the stage.
